Antique Sealed Constantia Wine Bottle 1791

This gorgeous split quarter sized bottle is sealed with the date 1791 and retains its original cork and green wax seal. The dried sediment inside has left an attractive patchwork of brown patterns. These little bottles were originally sold in Christies back in 1975 and Sotheby’s in 1979 with only a few having sealed contents. During the Sotheby’s sale in 1979 a tasting was done of one of the full bottles and further sampling in 2001 confirmed it as a Old Maderia style Constantia wine. The bottle is in fine cellar found condition with no chips or cracks. The base gives a wonderful wobble when prompted adding to its appeal. Height 7.2 inches. Width 2.5 inches. Several off these bottles exist in collections but only a handful have there cork/wax seal making this a rare survivor. English C1791
