Rare Aquamarine English Half Size Onion Bottle
Gorgeous tiny onion bottle in a striking aquamarine blue colour. Blowpipe pontil to base. These rare coloured onions were blown by European glassblowers working in England from the early 1700,s. The colour is produced by burning bracken & fern which creates potash and this gives the glass its blue/green hue. Two dated sealed examples are recorded in this colour in magnum size for 1725 & 1727 dating this example as close to the mid 1720,s. Small star crack in top shoulder,1/2 inch in diameter with 4 legs. Also a 20mm chip to string rim. General light wear and scratches from use. No other issues. Height 5.25 inches, width 5 inches. English.
