Rare Chestnut Bladder Bottle
Here we have a very unusual bottle in the form of a chestnut shape reminiscent of American made bottles. The heavy set glass and wide sand pontil point to this bottle being of English manufacture but this form is not generally found on these shores. The body has a slight white blooming known as glass gall. The surface has a good amount of wear but generally the bottle is in good condition with no chips or cracks. Height 8 inches, width 6 inches. This bottle may be the forerunner to the shape produced at the Wistarburg Glassworks from the 1740,s onwards in America but my thoughts point to a slightly later date. A bottle worthy of further research! C1760?
