Very Rare Scottish Black Glass Sealed & Dated Ale/Wine Jug Charles Mc Farlane?
Here we have an exceptional piece of rare black glass in the form of a jug with seal which reads C:McF 1827. Above the seal is the owners tools of the trade including a glass, goblet and bottle. This denotes the jug was made for a spirits merchant and was more than likely a one off piece commissioned by a local glass house. Sadly the body has had a knock which has produced a piece to fall out. This has been stuck back in but could use a better repair job. Luckily there are no huge associated cracks and the area broken is only 3 inches in width. The seal may be for Charles Mc Farlane as this was a popular name in the region but further research would be required. Pontil mark to base. Handle fully intact. Height 8 inches, width 6 inches. Only a few sealed jugs like this exist worldwide so despite the damage it displays well and is worthy of any fine collection of antique glass. Alloa glassworks or similar regional glass house as maker. C1827
