Antique Porcelain Enamel Sign Burmah Oil Company Motor Spirit

Incredibly rare and decorative enamel sign for BOC (Burmah Oil Company) This company was founded by a Glasgow entrepreneur who bought an existing company from the King of Burma known as The Rangoon oil company in 1876. By 1886 the company was incorporated as BOC. It is still to this day the oldest British Oil Company and is now called Burma Castrol. This sign is marked Willing & Co Ltd London to base. The sign has a Petrel Mark logo which must be a play on words for Petrol which was not in common use. Height 21 inches, width 22 inches. One small chip under the letter B and some scratching to central image and some loss of gloss. No restoration. A very rare piece of motoring history. C1901
